ĒTHĘR ensemble is a groundbreaking Basque music project founded in 2019 by José Ángel Babiano. The group is formed by a collective of artists—former students and teachers—who first crossed paths at Musikene, Donostia–San Sebastián and has never repeated the same lineup in any concert or festival, making it an unconventional ensemble.
Garazi Navas (accordion) and Pau Torres (saxophones) join J.Á. Babiano in coordinating the project under the non-profit Culture Association: ETHER Musika-Elkartea.
ĒTHĘR’s creative process blends interpretation, transcription, and original composition, driven by a refined synergy between improvisation and structured creation. This approach fuels the ensemble’s capacity for adaptation and reinvention, allowing it to embrace an expansive range of musical languages: from Classical, Contemporary, and New Music, to Jazz, Improvisation (guided and free), Electronic, Rock, Pop, Metal, and Popular and Folk traditions including Flamenco, Afro-Cuban, Basque or World Music.
This plural and porous identity grants ĒTHĘR a singular sound and an unmistakable artistic voice, versatile, deeply expressive, and charged with emotional and performative intensity. Their stage presence is unpredictable, vibrant, and magnetic: a truly immersive experience for the audience.
