Rosa Torres Serra, Ibiza, is a clarinetist and music educator whose path is deeply rooted in the musical traditions of her native Ibiza. Guided by a strong belief in the value of connecting with traditional music as a means of artistic and personal growth, she explores the intersection of classical training, world music, and improvisation. For Rosa, each musical encounter—be it with people, places, or styles—is an opportunity to enrich her identity as a musician and human being.
Trained in both classical and contemporary music, Rosa brings technical mastery together with cultural curiosity. Her work bridges genres and geographies, always with a sensitivity to the social and emotional power of music.
Selected highlights of her journey include:
Studied classical clarinet in Barcelona with Isaac Rodríguez, performing with ensembles such as the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès and the National Opera of Nice.
Explored Balkan and Klezmer music traditions during her time in Amsterdam, where she wrote a thesis on “How to implement different music traditions to build your style”.
Continued her studies in the World Music Department at Codarts (Rotterdam), focusing on improvisation and modal music with Alex Simu, and performed in several Middle Eastern ensembles.
Lived in Greece, where she explored Macedonian and Thessalian music under the direction of Fausto Sierakovski.
Since 2023, member of the ĒTHĘR Ensemble, blending classical music, free improvisation and electronics.
Currently based in Istanbul, where she studies Ottoman music as a gateway into the wider Makam tradition, while performing with various local projects.
Will participate in Yiddish Summer Weimar Festival (2025) as an active clarinetist.
Educational work and community engagement:
Over 8 years of teaching experience, working with students of all ages and adapting to their musical interests and learning needs.
Advocates for innovative methods in music education, including improvisation, jazz, and world music traditions.
Co-founded a non-profit association in Ibiza (2018) called Taller de Músiques with two fellow musicians, organizing music camps for children focused on community, nature and creativity through music.
Each camp develops a thematic performance, built collaboratively by participants and teachers, from a non-formal, inclusive perspective.
